My crazy Melbourne week:

Hello, thanks for popping in! I had a quick dash back to Melbourne this week for our son’s 21st Birthday Party, giving me the opportunity to show you what’s up there! Politics: The upcoming people's vote on the same-sex marriage debate is big news.  When some idiot decked our former Prime Minister, Tony Abbott, a prominent No campaigner and AFL house had a bomb hoax after changing their logo to a YES, the stories ran and ran. You would have to be a keen news followers to have picked up that Donald Trump has declared war on North Korea (in their eyes) because all other news is about the sports! Sports: Australian Rules Football (AFL) dominates our Melbourne news. Yes, the only battle that gets a mention down here is this one on the footy field. AFL is huge in our State of Victoria and this year our local chances lie with the Richmond Tigers a suburb about 10 mins drive away. Of course, they have to beat, the Adelaide Crows from South Australia, a te...

Our Beautiful World!

It's such a beautiful time of year. Take a look at this tree out the front of our house It's bare leaves, standing stark against the blue sky Just waiting to burst forth into spring! Out in the back garden, it's anything but bare Things have gone bananas! Actually, the growth makes me smile.  It seems so immediate,  so free, so easy in the garden. It's almost a pain, it needs tending and care. Warning - deep and meaningful alert... You see my day job is all about growth. My work with people seeking asylum is all about personal growth. The challenges of that when you may not have work or study rights, when you have fled unimaginable horrors, when you have left behind family and friends... I see such immense courage, resilience, strength. Just look what's appeared in my jungle! Aren't these Arum Lillies beautiful? Peaceful, calm and strong. I'm working long hours.  The work feels never ending,...

Spring is just around the corner

... and we're practically cooking on gas! Spring is such a tease this year. After we've shivered through the coldest Melbourne winter  in twenty-six years,  we're looking forward to welcoming her. She's proving a tad elusive. Yarra River, Studley Park, Melbourne   One minute the sun cautiously peeps out,  and we take the opportunity to warm our backs walking along the Yarra river,  in glorious sunshine. The next we are rushing home to warm our toes in front of the gas fire! Our g arden shrubs bless 'em, used to Melbourne's infamous 'four seasons in a day' climate,   bloom full of hope.    Spring flowers too,  ignoring our yo-yo temperatures, burst forth with a bright  ta-ra!   However, it is perhaps the Aussie natives which have the biggest crescendo.  Awakening  from their winter rest, a symphony of yellow wattle seen here at the Yarra's edge, creating it's own joyous...
