Winners are grinners at the Aus Open 2017

Talk about nearly choking on my cappuccino! So there I am enjoying a quiet coffee at the Australian Open when suddenly the peaceful garden area of the player lounge  becomes a hive of activity and out of the corner of my eye, a croc appears! Have you ever wondered how the players find the time to cuddle a koala or kangaroo? As if by magic the garden is transformed into a private up close and personal encounter with some of our favourite, and our not so favourite, Aussie animals.  It was a watch your back moment as a massive snake appears... But let's show you the koala who was clearly aware of his opportunity to shine. I mean who has ever seen a koala this alert? They seriously normally sleep 24/7! Of course, everyone wanted to cuddle the koala and who wouldn't except that in Australia you need a license to handle a koala, so bring on the little joey in the poach who seemed to enjoy all the attention from the gathering crowd. But let me in...

The Eagle has landed!

After six months studying in the United States of America  daughter No 2  has returned to the nest this morning. She has had an amazing time living in New York and travelling through California where she really learned to fly. This Little Mother Wren  has a nervous flapping of wings  and a scratching of her head when she sees the video of her young Wrenlet  jumping out of a plane! Wrenlet 2 arrives home to find her  Mother Hen has spent the entire week  running around like a headless chook, dusting and cleaning her room and generally preparing for her return. Well I might as well enjoy one week  with one immaculate & tidy kids bedroom! Plus I'm getting to the pointy end of my June minimalist challenge where by each day I throw out the same number of items as the date  I'm hoping she has been away so long, she won't remember half the items I've jettisoned from her room this we...

Kool Koala

Would you like to meet a cute Koala?  Each year we house tennis players competing at the Australian Open.  They don't often take time out from their busy on court schedules  to see the sights,  but this year we managed a day at  Healesville Sanctuary,  a zoo specialising in Australian animals.  Here are some of their photos...   May I introduce you to this cute koala called Benny,  he is the star of the Magic Moments at the Healesville Sanctuary.   Magic Moments are an up-close and personal experience with a animal (choice of kangaroos, koalas, dingoes and echnidnas)   inside their enclosure. The Keeper is there to tell you all about the animal and answer any questions. Whilst Kangaroos might be the iconic Australian animal, it is the koala which  has the most appeal for our American guests. Benny, is a male koala, about five years old.  You can see his brown scent gland in the cent...
