Always Hawthorn at the MCG

Five tips to always enjoy the footy! I went to the footy last weekend at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG),  the first time in ages. But that's it, I'm not to be invited back again. Our team and league leaders Hawthorn,  suffered an unexpected loss to Melbourne. It was only their second loss of the season which was the only other match I'd watched this year. So I'm banned as "always unlucky" from all future matches! We've been " Always Hawthorn " members for sixteen years now, although some of these were  with overseas membership. M y membership was dropped on cost-saving grounds a few years back by Mr Wren - number one Hawthorn fan, who claimed I wasn't committed enough! That's rich, as I've always enjoyed the footy - my way! It's true, my favourite way to always enjoy the footy is to arrive after the first siren and leave in time to get a seat on the train home! It's a two and a half hour long mat...

My Sunday Photo

'We're a happy team at Hawthorn We're the mighty fighting Hawks We love our team and we play to win...' There is no better place than with 100,000 footy fans at the  Melbourne Cricket Ground on Grand Final Day. This photo was taken by Mr Wren & Daughter No 1 I was at home watching it on the telly with the Crazy Poodle! Linking with thanks to Darren at OneDad3girls.com

Bend it Like Beckham...

Or work, travel and see the world. It's a tough one! We have a soft spot for the film ‘Bend it Like Beckham’ at our Football Club, we say it was largely responsible for our Club being! The movie certainly showcased changing attitudes to females participating in sport and inspired a whole generation of female footballers across the world. In 2002  at the time of the film, my daughter was playing for an U8 boys team in Melbourne. After the film and the surge in girls wanting to play soccer, our club was formed, and she now plays (and coaches) alongside over 200 girls and women players. Bend it like Beckham, is a new musical in London’s West End, opening with  perfect timing given the recent Women’s World Cup in Canada. Interest in the sport today is at an all time high. A record 25.4 million Americans watched their country win the Women's World Cup final on US television, other sports are green with envy with those viewing figures. I have just picked ...

Spring Grand Final weekend in Melbourne

Melbourne's Spring has arrived! Bursting in unannounced.  Leaving some of us  scurrying to the back of the wardrobe  in search of something  half decent to wear. Melbourne's Spring blossom  With temperatures in the high 20's Celsius, our garden bursts into bloom, demands attention, and my hayfever sneezes  echo around . Hello Spring - nice to see you! It's a great time of year in Melbourne, we have the lazy days of summer ahead of us. Lillies in the garden We also have a  few big exams to get through,  as the next few months will see the end of High School life for our son and a university degree completed for daughter number 2. I say ' we ' because as any parent will know,  it does feel like you are actually sitting the exams. Unfortunately, unlike the Year 1 project on natural disasters this is now totally out of your hands, and worryingly so... Spring bursts forth - for Pink Saturday...

World Cup fever in Australia #Keepthefaith

You have gotta love Australian's passion for their sport  and their support for their teams... The excitement here for the 2014 FIFA World Cup is immense. It is hard not to be caught up with the thrill of it all! Last weekend this Crazy Soccer Mum got up at 5.30am to drive to the other side of Melbourne where Village Cinemas in Sunshine were offering a free screening of the Australia V's Chile match to all not for profit organisations in the area. I was happy to volunteer to attend with our members, You could hardly call it work... Village Cinemas Sunshine The cinema opened it's doors at 7.15am, and I was there! Along with a gaggle of keen S occeroos supporters  all decked out in their green and gold scarves. We even had a small, but very proud contingent of Chileans bravely turning up with a huge flag! There were many supporters like myself who are cheering on a football team,  not from our country of birth. Austral...
