Sizzling Sydney

This time last week we were in Sydney We were there to celebrate, live it up and relax! The Good: It was an interesting weekend to say the least. First stop was a return to the hotel where a year ago I saw the naked man on the balcony. Do you remember the Adventure before Dementia post ?! I haven't forgotten: 'Fifty something, mother of three,  just released after twenty plus years of juvenile detention,  caught up in Sydney sex pest ring.' So the usual thing happens, we get up at 4am take the early flight to Sydney and I'm standing at the hotel check-in bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and early. Without my trump card of a husband (that sounds a bit rude) but literally doors open for these guys who travel so much, they have extra wallets for all the various loyalty hotel cards... So it's little old me,  and the receptionist is telling me  my room won't be ready for another five hours.  I'm wondering whether t...

Himalayan Necklace - Oh the stories it could tell!

Do you ever wonder...? I bought a necklace  in India last year...  It is well travelled.  O h the stories it could tell!  L ike  W here was it made?  ( I was told it was local from the foothills of the Himalayas... ) W ho made it?  D oes she  (I n my mind it was made by a lady,  hopefully not a child...  and certainly not a man. )  E ver wonder who bought the jewellery?  O r think 'Where in the world will it will end up?' I fell in love with this necklace,  seeing it as a connection to our 16 year old son,  who was on exchange at an Indian boarding school,  and as a memory of  my Indian Adventures... Like the crazy twenty hour journey I took just to reach him...  On an overnight sleeper train from Jaisalmer  to Jaipur ,  leaving my girlfriends,  and travelling solo,  for a six hour train ride to Delhi. A mad taxi ri...

Fashions on the Field palaver

With the Australian General Election over,  we can turn our attentions to some other important matters of life, the Spring Racing Carnival... As some of you may know we have a part itsy - bitsy share (like a tail) of a racehorse... We have had two previous horses and neither saw me galloping flat out around the shops in an absolute tizzy trying to work out what to wear... The first horse was in the UK where British weather dictates a smart coat (or more likely a raincoat) will suffice... The second was an Aussie horse, but let's just say we were never remotely near the winners enclosure and leave it at that... So this weekend I've been pondering frocks, hats and the rest. Fashions on the Field is a big part of a day at the Aussie races, even for those not remotely interested in entering the famous competitions. They say that over 26 million dollars was spent on hats, dresses and accessories for the Spring Racing Carnival in 2012 It is...
