Quietly remembering 9/11

In April this year we went to the  National September 11 Memorial & Museum Liberty Street, New York City. Thirteen years ago when terrorists took down the Twin Towers we were newly arrived in Australia. It didn't matter where you were in the world, if you watched again and again,  the sickening image of the plane flying into the World Trade Centre, it will never leave you. It felt important to go the 9/11 Memorial. There are two massive pools within the original footprints of the Twin Towers with 30 foot waterfalls cascading down the sides. Today I am quietly remembering... We remember the nearly three thousand people  who lost their lives  on the day the world was changed They say we were all New Yorkers that day... Linking with Alphabe Thursday Thank you Jenny

If it's Monday it must be New England!

It snowed last week. Whilst the locals are well over their long cold winter,  for those of us visiting from Australia, this was exciting. We don't ever wake to snow on the ground in Melbourne! There was not a humongous amount of snow, no huge deluge that would stop us from getting places, but a pretty amount, a light frosting  that made everything in New England look beautiful. A chilly start to the day We are in the States visiting my daughter on exchange at NYU and were driving to my Uncle and Aunt's house in Litchfield, North Western Connecticut. The town is a two and a half drive from New York city. The drive was an experience for me at the wheel ! We wanted to show our son life out of New York city We loved the quaint main streets and village greens of the small towns along the way, with the American Flags fluttering. Each town we drove through we said "wow - that's pretty!" We said that a lot!   The houses got b...

New York NEW YORK!

It is nearly thirty years since I was last in New York,  that's way too long! However, now our middle daughter is currently on  exchange at New York University  it was a perfect excuse to reacquaint  ourselves with this great city. Spring in New York Does it happen like this in your house? You travel  half way round the world  excited to catch up with your kids and they tell you they're busy?  S ome 5 km 'Run or Dye,'  where the students run like the clappers and have paint thrown at them...  "No, don't come and watch, it's out on Long Island.   You go off to explore,   I'll see you after lunch..." Whaaaat??? Two days on a plane to get here, and she's busy???  Oh well!  We are glad to see that she has lots of friends,  is keeping fit,  and fully throwing herself into NYU life! View from the Top of the Empire State building So we went off to expl...

Wren loves to fly...to England and New York!

Flying is in my blood... I am at my happiest with my suitcase packed  and my passports at the ready... Sunrise on the way to England in March  Talk about a crazy few weeks,  I was home with hardly enough time to work out which way is up...  before I'm off crossing the international date line. Hey, the good thing is that if you keep going long enough,  you find extra days in your life and  there is no time for jetlag! Firstly there was my Royal Brunei flight  from Melbourne Australia to London Heathrow... Leaving Australia takes hours - sorry for the blurred photo! Ok confession time. In the spirit of being open and transparent, I need to declare that I embarked here on a new adventure. I did ponder whether I should share this with you, for fear of being labelled a right spoilt brat, princess or even Little Wandering Wowser… Deep breath here goes. Twenty-eight hours travelling time and counting down… I ...
