All things bright and beautiful in Bangkok... and very Christmassy!



Hello everyone

How is your week going? I hope you're having a wonderful Wednesday. Here is a lotus flower for you. Isn't it incredible? I picked it on one of my recent trips in rural Thailand to spend some time with the Ban Laem Community. They rowed me out into the middle of the pond, like a Princess to pick it!
Oh me, oh my what a life!

Mind you, if you can see the photo below I had to walk the gangplank of the bamboo path to get into the boat! You can read more about this here:




All good here, although I'm missing being in Australia at the moment as it is the Spring Racing carnival's Melbourne Cup weekend. It's a lovely time of year, spring is one of the best times anywhere in the world don't you agree?

We've not got any horses here but we do have loads of animals in my corner of the world. 
Whereever I go in Bangkok, 
I always seem to find the elephant in the room. Haha!


Guess what happened out our way this week? The Christmas decorations went up in one of the Bangkok malls. Is that happening out your way?! 

Come for a wander with me. 
I'm interested to see how Thailand does Christmas this year.

This is Emporium one of the really upmarket shopping malls and we seem to have a random amount of colourful animals... I'm wondering what the folks at Dolce and Gabbana think about it all?


It's big, it's bold, eye-catching and colourful and I'll leave you to tell me what you think...



... apart from it seems a tad early to be thinking about Christmas.

That is a gorgeous lotus, and I like the Christmas tree with the variety of animals on it. So early though, and for me Christmas is about Jesus.

They certainly doo gaudy for Christmas. Lights are appearing here too amid the gloom. So very different. Love the lotus flower. Beautiful. B x

Oh my goodness! I love all the colour and the animals on the Christmas trees, what an unusual idea and great fun though not what you immediately think of as Christmassy. It's all starting over here, Christmas films on TV, turkeys in Marks and cards and present ideas, not quite as showy as with you though. I loved your other post, you visit the most beautiful places. x

Blimey, that's colourful! I love colours and it would be fun to have a wander around this mall. I didn't know that Christmas is a big thing in Thailand (or at least in the big city).

I tried to leave a comment on your other blog but every time I press submit, it diseappars.. Loved to learn all about your trip to the small rural community.

Too early for me to think about DOING Christmas (or seeing it in most stores) but for displays like that I can make a big exception! So colorful and fun!

The size of that blossom is amazing. At my age and weight, No thanks on the bamboo walkway.

I have begun some of the Christmas shopping but not ready for the deco to come out at this time. Those decorations are almost like a celebration of creation with all the animals.

This is an awesome post seeing a totally different sort of celebration...and so colorful. The bamboo walk would scare the pieces out of me. Nothing unsteady for this girl!!

I think you have won the race to post Christmas decoration photos! Such brightly colored ones, compared to the traditional red and dark green here. The lotus flower is just stunning. I will picture it when doing my yoga tomorrow morning.

I had never seen Christmas decorations with animals, but there's a first time for everything :)
Here the shopping centres are also already decked out in Christmas decorations. My daughter who lives in the Philippines said that there the Christmas decorations in shopping centres and streets go up on 1st of October!
By the time you get to Christmas you are fed up of listening to Christmas music!!

Wren - love the lotus flower, but I will give the gaudy Christmas decorations a pass. Not sure the connection between the animals and the birth of Jesus? Maybe a modern-day replacement for the oxen and the sheep? Most places around here will wait until the week of US Thanksgiving or immediately thereafter to put up decorations. The flower is gorgeous and huge. The shops here are full of Christmas and the malls are very sparkly and Christmassy. I do prefer the more traditional decorations rather than those promoting films etc. The unicorn seems to be a popular decorative creature. What's wrong with reindeer?

Christmas decorations there are certainly wonderfully colourful! Here it seems they start the retail decorating earlier and earlier every year and then by the time December rolls around we're all pretty sick and tired of the whole thing. The Toronto Santa Claus parade was yesterday and now the radios are starting to play Christmas music. Too soon!!

Taipei Adventures, naked - moi?!

I have to tell you all about my little adventure in Taipei recently, naked at the Hot Springs! I can't believe that I have never been to Taiwan, I certainly urge you all to go if you ever get the chance. For me, I loved the combination of influences of two countries I enjoy.  Street views from Downtown Taipei The Chinese left some interesting historical influences and stunning architecture, which combined with a Japanese legacy and efficiency in transportation, makes Taipei an easy place to visit, with so much to see. It's a funny old world!
